What We Did
Caterham District Scouts
Caterham District Scouts serves the communities of Caterham, Chaldon, Hamsey Green, Warlingham, Whyteleafe, and Woldingham, running programmes across six age sections — from Squirrels (age 4) through to Explorers (age 18).
With 11 active groups and an all-adult volunteer programme, the district provides young people with outdoor adventures, skill-building activities, and a genuine sense of community. As a non-profit, their digital presence needed to reflect the warmth of the organisation while making it easy for families to find their nearest group and get involved.
What Did We Do?
Caterham District Scouts needed a website that served a diverse audience — parents researching Scout groups for their children, young people exploring what Scouting offers, and adult volunteers looking to get involved — all on a non-profit budget.
Pinwheel delivered a clean, accessible WordPress website with a clear information architecture designed to guide each audience to the content most relevant to them. A district-level group finder makes it easy for families to identify their nearest section and begin the joining process, while dedicated pages for each age group explain the programme in an engaging, age-appropriate way.
The site was built with accessibility and mobile performance as core priorities, ensuring it works well for all visitors regardless of device or ability.
What Did We Achieve?
Since launching the new website, Caterham District Scouts has seen a marked improvement in online enquiries from prospective members and adult volunteers — with the clearer joining journey significantly reducing friction for new families reaching out.
The group finder functionality has become a popular entry point for parents, and the age section pages have helped prospective members better understand what each programme involves before making contact.
As a non-profit, Caterham Scouts now has a digital presence that reflects the professionalism and community spirit of the district — giving volunteers and staff a platform they can be proud of, and families the clear information they need to take the first step.
